Lucy Kate Dixon was born on July 21, 2012 at 6:54pm. She weighted 6lbs 12oz and was 18 inches long. Lucy surprised us all by arriving 18 days early! I was definitely not expecting to have her come this early, but thankful the good Lord knew when she was coming and everything went so smoothly.
My two biggest fears around her birth were getting Ava taken care of and getting to hospital in time. With Ava, my labor progressed very fast and I had been told that the second one comes even faster. We live at least 30 minutes from the hospital with no traffic so I was nervous I would have a car baby.
On Friday, the 20th, Brent's parents came in town to visit. The visit had been planned for months because they were coming in town to see a concert. Friday night and Saturday morning I was having a ton of contractions, nothing painful, but lots of activity. I thought I was just dehydrated. Around 10am on Saturday, the contractions were coming about every 3 minutes and getting a little more uncomfortable. I finally called the doctor and they told me to come in to be checked out. I took Ava over to Brent's parents' hotel and his mom took me to the hospital. Brent was working so he met us there. When we got there, I was 4 cm so they told me to go walk around the hospital for two hours. This happened twice so I ended up walking for 4 hours. After that, I was still only 4.5 cm even though the contractions were getting much stronger. They told me they could not keep me anymore and sent me home. I was so upset because I was in a lot pain and so nervous. I was sure she was coming soon. And I was right!!
We were about 15 minutes away from the hospital when my water broke. This was at about 5:45pm. Brent immediately turned around and we headed back to the hospital. The contractions were coming hard and fast after that. I made to labor and delivery and was 7.5cm. Within about 3 minutes I was at 10cm and screaming that I "have to push!!" Less than 10 minutes later my sweet Lucy was here! I was so thankful that we did not make it home before my water broke because I really may have had a car baby! I am also so thankful that Brent's parents were in town so i didn't have to worry at all that Ava was in the right spot...especially since I had not even packed a bag with her things yet.
Lucy is so sweet and has been easy since the the moment she arrived. I think she looks a lot like Brent, but also resembles Ava's baby pictures. We are so thankful for a safe delivery and beautiful, healthy baby girl!!
